💡 Timing Tip: The first 2 weeks of any crab season typically yield 40–60% of total seasonal catch. For King Crab, the "derby-style" commercial season may last as few as 4 days when quotas are hit fast. Plan your fishing days around the season opener for maximum success.
🌡️ Temperature Conversion Tip: To convert your local water temperature: °C = (°F – 32) × 5/9. Crab activity peaks at species-specific optimal ranges. King and Snow crab prefer near-freezing water (35–48°F / 2–9°C), while Blue and Stone crab thrive in warmer coastal waters above 60°F / 16°C.

The season for catching crabs is not the same everywhere. It changes based on the species and the region. In Alaska the time for royal crab can stretch even during the cold winter months from October until January each year.

Alaskan Crab fishers have mostly set times based on the kind of Crab that they catch and the place of their work. Red royal Crab, bairdi and opilio all start October 15th and last until April 1st or until the limits are reached. Opilio Crab starts in January.
