Marlins rank between the biggest fish of the seas, and their Weight changes a lot according to the species and the sex of the individual. One assumes that Blue Marlin reach almost a whole ton. The heaviest known one weighed around 750 kilos, so around 1650 pounds, although some maybe pass 900 kilos or 2000 pounds.
Atlantic Blue Marlin can reach up to 820 kilos, so almost 1810 pounds. In 1984 one caught in the Pacific a huge Blue Marlin of 1656 pounds.
How Big Are Marlins
The global record Blue Marlin weighed 1402 pounds and 2 ounces. Paul Amorim caught it in Vitorio, Brazil, on February 29th 1992. It mesaured 162 inches.
On the other hand, the biggest black marlin ever fished had 726 kilos, so around 1600 pounds. One found it in 1953 in Peru, caught by Alfred Glassell Jr., and it measured 14 feet and 6 inches. He struggled against it almost two hours.
Between male and female marlins shows clear contrast. All trophy blues result from females. Males almost never pass 300 to 350 pounds and stop growing around 20 years old.
Females arrive past 14 feet long and grow much more quickly than males. For the species typical Weight is around 400 pounds, that males usually do not pass. Adult males rarely exceed 330 pounds, but females can pass 1000 pounds easily.
Female Blue Marlin do not reach sexual maturity until around 600 pounds or even moor. After the fifth year females pass males in size, although before they indeed stay more small.
Blue Marlin grow until 14 feet long and live until 27 years for females, 18 for males. The usual length for adults ranges between 6 and 9 feet.
In places for fishing like the Azores, one finds average 400 to 500 pounds, while many pass 800. From here come two world records above 1000 pounds. Blue Marlin of more than 500 pounds commonly win tournaments.
For instance, winner of one contest went with 609-pound Blue Marlin.
Striped marlin stay fairly small. It reaches up to 180 kilos, so around 400 pounds, with maximum length of 4 metres. Some striped ones caught weighed between 100 and 130 pounds.
White marlin are even tinier, with middle Weight of around 60 pounds. Spearfish also are muchmore small than marlins, maximum 650 kilos.
