However, if a person is traveling at faster speed with the boat, the lead core line will create more lift, which will cause the lead core line to remain higher in the water column.
Based off the number of colors out on the lead core line and the speed of the boat, a person can use a depth chart to determine the depth of the lead core line in the water. In order to use the depth chart, a person must consider the number of colors on the lead core line and the speed of their boat to find the depth that is represent on the chart. The speed of the boat is another critical aspect of determining the depth of the lead core line.
For instance, if a person change the speed of their boat from one point five mile per hour to three miles per hour, the depth of the lead core line could change ten foot. This is why a depth chart represent different depths for the lead core line for different speeds of the boat. If a person is looking for Walleye fish at a depth of fifteen feet, the lead core line should be set to three or four color of lead core line while moving the boat at a moderate speed.
However, if the Walleye fish do move to a depth of thirty feet during the summer, a person could either let out more lead core line or slow the boat to reach these fish. Depending on the different species of fish that live in the water, they will live at different depth in the water column. For instance, Lake trout live in deeper and colder water.
To reach the Lake trout, a person would have to use more color of lead core line and use slower speeds with the boat. Salmon live in areas of the water that are higher in the water column. Thus, people would have to use fewer color of lead core line and travel at faster speed to reach the Salmon.
Walleye live in the middle depth of the water column, so people would have to adjust the lead core line to find the Walleye fish. The depth chart would allow people to adjust the lead core line to match the species of fish in the water. Other variables will affect how deep the lead core line will travel in the water.
For instance, if the person use larger lure on the lead core line, the lead core line will travel higher in the water. The deeper the lead core line, the faster it will sink to the ocean floor. Thus, a person would have to use a lead core line that has more weight to one that has less weight.
Additionally, if there is a current or the wind in the area, that will also affect the lead core line. If a boat travels into a current, the lead core line will travel higher in the water column. However, if a boat travels with the current in the water, the lead core line will travel deeper into the water.

In order to properly set up a lead core line, a person has to add the component in a specific way. First, the person will add monofilament backing to the fishing reel. The person will add the lead core line to the monofilament backing.
A fluorocarbon leader will then be added to the lead core line. The lure will be added to the fluorocarbon leader. The reason that monofilament backing is used is because it save money and provides some stretch to protect the knot on the fishing line.
Fluorocarbon leader are used because they are nearly invisible in the water and will allow the lure to look more natural in the water. Additionally, a ball bearing swivel should be added between the lead core line and the fluorocarbon line to avoid the lead core line from twist on the fishing reel. With the movement of the fish in different season, the depth of the lead core line will change.

During the summer season, the thermocline will cause the fish to move to deeper water, thus requiring more lead core line or slower speed for the boat. During the fall season, the water temperature will cause the fish to move to the mid-depths of the water column. During the winter season, the fish will gather around areas of interest and structure at moderate depth.
The depth chart is another important tool that will remove the guesswork in determining the depth of the lead core line. Instead of having to guess at the depth of the lure, a person can look at the lead core line to determine the number of color of lead core line that are out and the speed of the boat to determine the depth. This information can help a person to make change to the boat and the lead core line if the fish are not biting at the current depth.
Additionally, if a person find the fish at a certain depth, they can use the same amount of lead core line and the same speed for the boat to find the fish again. Although this depth chart is a great starting point for finding the depth of the fish, a person should of remember that the lead core line and the boat may cause slight variation in the depth indicated on the chart.
