Fish that has teh same lengths may have different weight. Pumpkinseed fish has deep bodies. Fish with deep bodies have more mass.
So, it is possible that a fish may feel lighter or more heavy than its appearance. A person cannot determine the weight of a pumpkinseed fish by its length. Length tell a person the length of the pumpkinseed fish but does not provide information about the girth of that fish.
How to Estimate the Weight of a Pumpkinseed Fish
Use of a calculator can provide an estimation of the weight of a pumpkinseed fish by using certain formula with the length of the pumpkinseed fish and the widest part of its belly. Using these two measurement in the formula allow for a more accurate estimation of the weight of the pumpkinseed fish than using the length of the pumpkinseed fish alone. The body profile setting or the habitat setting allow for further accuracy in the estimation of the weight of the pumpkinseed fish by accounting for the shape of the pumpkinseed fish.
Pumpkinseed fish from deep lakes tend to be more sleek than pumpkinseed fish from nutrient rich ponds. The weight of the pumpkinseed fish may fluctuate with the season that the pumpkinseed fish is catch. Pumpkinseed fish in late fall may be heavier than others due to the storage of fats to last the winter.
Pumpkinseed fish in January may be lighter due to less fat in the winter months. The setting for the stomach or spawn in the calculator allow for the weight estimation software to account for these differences in the fish. Female pumpkinseed fish that are spawning will have a higher weight than females that isnt spawning.
Accuracy in the estimation of the weight allow for certain measurements to be selected. A soft tape can best measure the girth of the pumpkinseed fish by wrapping around the deepest part of the pumpkinseed fish. A ruler can provide the length of the pumpkinseed fish but cannot measure its girth.
If a person is to be estimated the weight of a pumpkinseed fish from a photograph of the pumpkinseed fish, the body depth of the pumpkinseed fish can be used to account for the weight of the pumpkinseed fish. However, the use of body depth can introduce a margin of error in the estimation of the weight. The calculator software allow for the different measurements to be accounted for by providing more importance to specific measurement.
The calculator estimate the relative condition score (Wr) of the pumpkinseed fish. This relative condition score allow for the weight of the pumpkinseed fish to be compared to the standard weight of a pumpkinseed fish. If the relative condition score of a pumpkinseed fish is around 100%, it is an average pumpkinseed fish.
If the relative condition score of the pumpkinseed fish is more much than 100%, it has a higher weight for its length. If the relative condition score of the pumpkinseed fish is much less than 100%, it has a lower weight for its length. Using these two values for a pumpkinseed fish help to reveal information regarding the biology of the water in which the pumpkinseed fish live.
